Is Your Phone eSIM Compatible? How to Check Step by Step
Before buying an Airalo eSIM, confirm two things: that your phone supports eSIM, and that it's carrier-unlocked. Both take seconds to verify.
Checking on iPhone
- Open Settings → Cellular → look for Add eSIM.
- If the option appears, your phone supports eSIM.
- Supported devices: iPhone XS and later (XS Max, XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and all variants). iPhone 14 and later in some countries runs on eSIM only, with no physical SIM tray.
Checking on Android
- Open Settings → Network & Internet or Connections → look for SIM or SIM management.
- If you see Add eSIM or Download a SIM, your phone supports it.
- Examples of supported devices: Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, Huawei P40 and later, and most flagship 2020+ phones.
Additional requirement: carrier-unlocked phone
Even if your phone supports eSIM, it must not be locked to a specific carrier. Phones bought on a financing plan or contract may be locked. To check: try adding a third-party eSIM — if rejected, the phone is locked. Contact your network provider to unlock it.
